Peninsula Sounds
Peninsula Sounds is an artist-led sound archive created by Wild Museum and commissioned by Eastleigh Borough Council, using Developer’s Contributions for public art.
Produced across 2024, the seven audio artworks that comprise the archive are in investigation of the Hamble Peninsula. A Peninsula on the south coast of England whose story and identity has been fundamentally shaped by the rivers and the sea.
From listening to oyster beds out to sea, to folk traditions pulled from archives, Peninsula Sounds explores the communities of Hamble, Bursledon and Hound, their history, and the shifting natural environment.
Produced by: John Coburn
Artists: Chris Watson, Jennifer Reid, John Coburn, Rose Ferraby, Tim Shaw
From ferry captains to fisherfolk, the seven artworks were created with over 100 residents. Collaborators also included Hamble Harbour Authority, University of Southampton, Hamble Club Football Club, Royal Victoria Country Park, Folk Active, St Edward’s Church and Hamble-Warsash Ferry.
