Radio Chopwell
Radio Chopwell was a multi-year partnership project to empower socially isolated older residents of Chopwell, Gateshead to create a digital archive that interpreted theirs lives and the places they live.
Building on extensive community consultation, and working with local organisations, Radio Chopwell created high quality arts experiences for residents where social isolation, mental health and self-esteem problems are acutely felt. Working with historical archives and live sounds of their local world, residents created artworks that were broadcast online and shared via physical installations and events.
A programme of arts making, walking and social events- including live radio broadcasting in community venues and local pubs- was created to bring together different generations of residents and increase community cohesion.
